Utilising the healing powers of nature in a way that 'complements' western medicine practices

Naturopathy ‘compliments’ western medicine by focusing on the initial cause of conditions from a cellular level. I like to think of my work as being Preventative Medicine; understanding the body’s weakest links due to genetic predisposition, and identifying acquired causes (deficiencies or accumulations over time).
By understanding body-types, measures can be applied to protect and support the body’s overall functioning. What works for one person, may not work as well for others. I like to use the terms ‘limit’ or ‘reduce’ instead of ‘avoid’; I emphasise the concept of ‘moderation’. My nutritional recommendations are a guide only.
I’m passionate about iridology. Iris fibres can tell a lot about what’s happening in the body. Iridology analysis is a guide only, and not used as a diagnostic tool. I like to describe it as being similar to reflexology in Traditional Chinese Medicine. When you think about it, our bodies grew from a single cell, dividing, multiplying and replicating into who we are today. Each body system may influence and be influenced by another body system.
Naturopathy empowers people to be responsible for, take control and ownership of their own health and well being. I believe it’s important for healthcare disciplines to work with one another, to ultimately devise the best possible health outcome.
